Revd. Dr. Martin Mujinga

Rev Dr. Martin Mujinga the General Secretary of the Africa Methodist Council was the General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (2021-2023). He led in various capacities in the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe that included as a Superintendent Minister, Synod Secretary, Chairperson of the Further Studies Committee, and National Tertiary Institutions Chaplain.
Rev Dr. is a distinguished scholar with more than 30 published peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and books. Most of his publications are on the history and theology of the Methodist Church, political theology, African theology, migration, chaplaincy, religion, and politics. He holds a PhD from the University of KwaZulu Natal (South Africa), an MA, BA Hons, and a Diploma in Religious Studies from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Diploma in Religious Studies from United Theological College. He also has a Diploma in Human Resources Management with the Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe and a Certificate of Management for Senior Church leaders from Corat-Africa- Kenya.

Rev Dr. Mujinga has taught at various tertiary institutions including the Seth Mokithimi Methodist Seminary in South Africa, the Catholic University in Zimbabwe, Midlands State University, Zimbabwe Open University, Domboshawa Theological College, Officer Training College of the Salvation Army in Zimbabwe, and the United Theological College where he was the Academic Dean before his appointment as the General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe in 2020.

Revd Dr. Mujinga is a Research Fellow of the Research Institute for Theology and Religion at the University of South Africa and Stellenbosch University in the Department of Systematic Theology and Ecclesiology. He is a reviewer of a number of international Journals that include Alternation Journal hosted by the University of KwaZulu Natal, Stellenbosch Theological Journal, HTS Theological Studies /Teologiese Studies hosted by UNISA, Studia Historiae Ecclesiasticae –UNISA, Gender Questions Journal, Journal of Religion in Africa and the International Journal of Professional Practice hosted by Kenya Methodist University. His academia extended to Wesley University Ondo in Nigeria where he supervised two PhD candidates. He is also an External Examiner for postgraduates at UNISA and undergraduates at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
From 2010-2020, Revd Dr. Mujinga was a Board member of the Seke Teachers College where he was the chairperson of the Human Resources Committee. He also served as a theology consultant for the Zimbabwe Council of Churches during the Covid-19 pandemic. During his time as the Academic Dean at United Theological College, he spearheaded community engagement programs for just and active citizenry sponsored by the World Council of Churches.

Dr Mujinga has attended a number of high level ecumenical conferences including the All-Africa Council of Churches, World Methodist Council of Churches, and Africa Methodist Council. In addition, he also attends and presents papers at academic Conferences such as the Theological Society of South Africa and the Kenya Methodist University. Dr. Mujinga is married to Meloreen Mujinga an ordained minister of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe and the two are blessed with three children.

Dr Mujinga took over from Very Rev Opeyemi Awe ( interim secretary from 2015 and then elected General Secretary in 2019 at the first AMC Conference in Nairobi, Kenya) as the General Secretary of the Africa Methodist Council in 2024 under the presidency of Most Rev Dr Paul K Boafo who is the current Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana.
